What is Laser Liposuction?
Laser liposuction is a newer, less invasive form of traditional liposuction which requires smaller incisions and can be performed under local anaesthetic, meaning that recovery is faster and less traumatic and swelling and bruising after the operation is much lessened. The process works by directing a laser beam at the fat tissue which is then dissolved because of the high temperature. As the fat is then liquid, it is much easier to extract through a cannula.
What are the differences between Laser Liposuction and Traditional Liposuction?
Laser liposuction creates less damage to the tissue than traditional liposuction. With traditional liposuction the fat has to be broken down manually by the surgeon using the cannula itself. This can cause damage to blood vessels and is the reason there is so much swelling and bruising after liposuction. Laser liposuction is a lot more focused and so gentler. Also it is much easier to suck out the liquid fat than it would be to suck out the solid fat using the traditional method. In addition, laser liposuction helps to tighten the skin.
Choosing a type of Surgery and a Surgeon
The surgeon's credentials and experience are very important when choosing a procedure such as liposuction. With minimally invasive techniques such as this, there are fewer risks but all surgery still carries with it some risk. If patients do not feel at ease at the consultations prior to surgery, they should not feel pressured into getting a procedure with that hospital or clinic. This is especially important with clinics which offer free initial consultations as patients can feel guilty about getting something for free. Time and research is of the utmost importance with a decision about cosmetic surgery.
Costs
Laser liposuction is a little more expensive than the traditional method because of the new technologies used and the obvious benefits. Prices in the UK start from around
£1,500 at the absolute minimum, but costs starting from around
£2,000 are more common, especially in London. The price will also depend heavily on the area of the body which is to be operated on (because of the amount of fat to be removed). Patients need to check what is included in the quote, especially as they may be required to stay in the hospital after the surgery, so meals and follow-up visits may not be included in the initial estimate.
The advantages you obtain from liposuction must last a long time as long as you continue your wholesome lifestyle.
