How does it work?
Sagging skin in the chin area can be particularly distressing as it cannot be improved with lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise, the skin simply loses elasticity with age. However, there are relatively straightforward operations which can help.Chin liposuction can be helpful to improve aesthetic appearance in people who have sagging skin under the chin, or thick bands of skin around the neck. The procedure is sometimes combined with muscle lifts to tighten the muscles under the chin or around the neck area (this is also known as a neck lift). The liposuction operation involves making small incisions and removing fat via small cannulas and should take no more than about an hour to perform.
Recovery
The procedure will be performed under general anaesthetic so although patients may be able to go home the same day they will need someone to collect them from the hospital. There will be some bruising and swelling in the area operated on and the patient will have to return to the hospital between one and two weeks later to have stitches removed and to have a general check up so that the surgeon can see how the healing process is progressing. Although in the case of chin liposuction the stitches will be very small, patients should still avoid strenuous activity for a week or two after the procedure as they do not want to risk reopening the incisions.Clinics in London
There are many, many clinics and hospitals in London offering liposuction procedures and prospective patients should research them very carefully before settling for a particular surgeon or medical team. The team's experience and credentials as well as the professionalism and cleanliness of the clinic or hospital should be number one considerations, although serious complications are rare in liposuction operations, the patient should be sure that the operation is being performed under optimum circumstances. Some clinics offer free initial consultations which can be attractive but patients should make sure that they are not drawn into paying more as a result of this if they are not happy with the service. As a purely cosmetic procedure, this operation is not available on the NHS.
